Atiya Bose

Founding Member & Lead, Child Protection

Atiya Bose leads Aangan, driving programs that annually reach over 200,000 children and adolescents across multiple Indian states - embedding children’s rights, safety, and protection into public systems and development priorities. Her current work builds effective support networks for adolescent girls, ensuring their safety and lived realities shape action and policy, especially in high-risk settings.

Over two decades, Atiya’s advocacy has influenced law, policy, and practice in youth justice, child protection, and institutional care. She served on key national committees for the Ministry of Women and Child Development and co-led India’s first Standards of Care tool for children’s institutions, in partnership with UNICEF.

Atiya’s early career in California’s criminal justice system - advocating life histories in sentencing to view women and youth not just as offenders, but as people shaped by violence, poverty, and structural inequities - fundamentally informs her Aangan leadership. Here, programs with adolescents, especially girls, examine how power, harm, and protection play out in real lives, redefining justice for each context.
